John Holyoke - Going Outdoors

Outdoor columnist John Holyoke of the Bangor Daily News and chief videographer Dave Simpson of ABC-7 in Bangor began producing "Going Outdoors" episodes as part of a cross-promotional effort between the newspaper and the TV station. In trying to avoid typical hook-and-bullet TV offerings, the weekly segments have been ruled by a simple (if unwritten, until now) production credo: "We're going outdoors ... somewhere. We're having fun ... somehow. And we want to take viewers along."

There's some hunting here (although you might end up hunting for the perfect Christmas tree). There's some fishing (though John seldom catches much). We may jump off large rocks into cool water. We may sit in trees and eat donuts while waiting for bears to show up. You never really know. And honestly, neither do we ... until we get there. Really, isn't that what "Going Outdoors" is all about?
